Oriel Q - Queens Hall Gallery, High Street, Narberth, Pembrokeshire, SA67 7AS [t] 01834 869454 Manager: Lynne Crompton
The exhibition of these works by Tim Davies was opened by Emma Geliot, officer in charge of the visual arts in Wales on Saturday 10 April.
Tim, originally from Pembrokeshire, but now living in Swansea, was one of ten international artists short-listed for the £40,000 Artes Mundi visual arts prize [won by Xu Bing, the dust artist]. In 1998, Tim won the Oriel Mostyn Open Prize and, in 2003, he was the Gold Medal winner in fine art at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
It has been said that Tim's work ‘explores humanity's conflictive relationship with the myriad processes of marginalisation, exploitation and dispossession’, whether in his native Wales or elsewhere. Much of his work is a response to where it is made – in terms of its geographical, political and social location: ‘I do not believe artists can escape their time or place,’ says Tim.
Tim will be giving a talk on Thursday, 22 April at 7.30pm in the Gallery.

Vowels wild and scattered
Tim uses video, photography, ready-made materials and various media to make powerful statements, some of which may make you feel uncomfortable, resentful or justified in your own opinions but, whatever your reaction is, it will make you think, and further makes the point that art has a voice and is not just decoration.
