Ymateb/Response

30 May to 27 June

This exhibition is a response by the artist to images that enter his consciousness through personal experience and the media. Osi Osmond lives in Llansteffan, Carmarthenshire but is drawn to areas of the world where tensions between conflicting beliefs and identities create a situation of oppositional dynamics.

In his words, this is a polite way of describing the destruction and violence taking place in the Middle East, Europe and Asia. Osmond has visited some of these areas over the last thirty years and made paintings, drawings and photographs. In this exhibition he draws on this material and responds to the confused sights and sounds of war aircraft and machinery he experiences in his home locality.

The exhibition, which consists of a body of paintings, three large drawings and several watercolours, takes the viewer on a series of emotional journeys and also reflects the artist’s great love of poetry. Engraved within the three drawings are the words of the poets, Waldo Williams, Mahmoud Darwish and Frank Bidart.
