INGRID MURPHY: new ceramic work - 15 Mar - 15
Apr 2006
Ingrid Murphy has created a stunning body of work that
deals with the notion of space from the architectural to
the intimate.
The use of gold as a reflective surface in some of the pieces
creates a fabulous effect. Objects placed within these paper-thin
box structures take on a significance that lead us to speculate
on their symbolism. The excitement and wonder of the physical
attributes of the medium take us into the realms of alchemy
and magic.
The struggle to create such technically difficult pieces
is rewarded by the sheer joy of the finished object which
takes on an iconic presence.
Ingrid is from County Cork, Ireland and is Head of the Ceramic
Department at West Wales School of Art and Design in Carmarthen. This
exhibition shows what a talented artist she is and we can
expect her to become internationally renowned.
The exhibition is open 10am-5pm daily.
