An imaginative exhibition that includes a beautifully crafted
full size carousel with paper maché figures and old
fair horses, copper mirrors reflecting distorted versions of
the viewer and the spinning carousel, paintings based on fairground
decorations and a video of family photographs, fair rides and
childhood memories encased in an exquisite “peep show” etched
copper booth.
"Songs of my father’s singing on his homemade tapes
are one of the echoes of childhood that are represented in “COUNTRY
HITS” a new body of work made for the Queens Hall Gallery.
Childhood memories and ghosts from the past, lost innocence, nostalgia and a
feeling of trying to slow down are all themes represented in this collection
of objects that all relate to each other. A set of objects associated with contemplative
play, domesticity and childhood that could be on a miniature scale has been scaled
up. Inspiration from the fair, looking at peepshows, the presence of a jewellery
box and various themes give the work a surreal dream like quality with hidden
meanings. The mirrors and their distorted images offer new interpretations. These
are private places that all of us can identify with, and which the viewer plays
a part in by the very presence of their own reflection.”
Pauline is a mixed media artist living and working in Pembrokeshire.
She has a BA in Sculpture from Norwich School of Art and
an MA from the Royal College of Art.
The exhibition is open 10am-5pm daily.
