This
is a new collection of superb oil paintings by Gareth Hugh
Davies who lives in Llandybie Carmarthen, not a million miles
from his home town Llanelli.
Born in 1962 Gareth has had
a successful career as an artist. In 1990 he won the Gold
Medal for Fine Art in the National Eisteddfod and since then
has had exhibitions every year throughout Britain including
Cardiff`(Martin Tinney Gallery) Mall Galleries, London, Mostyn,
Tabernacle, and in Germany, Holland and New York.
This new body of work explores certain landscape motifs that
resonate with and reference ideas beyond a simplistic reading
of landscape painting. "I am interested in the disparity
between what is familiar in our enviroment and its power
to disturb and confront us. The meeting of light and dark
elements in landscape and still life has been a recurring
theme throughout my work, their meeting place a potential
for reference to mythological, cultural and spiritual ideas."
Gareth has produced a stunning show of high quality, and
it is a pleasure to see oil painting so well handled, and
to stand in front of one of his large atmospheric landscapes
and let your imagination evoke feelings of foreboding or
anxiety is a skill he has accomplished and that will impress
you.
The exhibition is open Wednesday to Saturday 10am-5pm
until November19th. |
