'Distant Views' - works
by Tim Davies at Oriel Queens Hall Gallery, Narberth, is being
opened by Emma Geliot, officer in charge of the visual arts in
Wales at 6.30 pm on Saturday April 10.
Tim, originally from Pembrokeshire, but now living in Swansea,
was one of ten international artists short-listed for the £40,000
Artes
Mundi visual arts prize [won by Xu Bing, the dust artist].
In 1998, Tim won the Oriel Mostyn Open Prize and in 2003 he was
the Gold Medal winner in fine art at the National Eisteddfod of
Wales.
It has been said that Tim's work 'explores humanity's conflictive
relationship with the myriad processes of marginalisation, exploitation
and dispossession', whether in his native Wales or elsewhere. Much
of his work is a response to where it is made - in terms of its
geographical, political and social location: 'I do not believe
artists can escape their time or place' says Tim.
Tim will be giving a talk on Thursday, 22 April at 7.30
pm in the gallery.
