The Taste of Sight

1 to 30 June

The Taste of Sight as a concept has acted as catalyst for my most recent works. Paint and its physical qualities, alongside the process of painting itself are integral.

The sensations and contemplative emotions experienced on the shoreline have an immense hold over me. These paintings strive to ‘touch’ you; they are about being human; they are about being alive to the world.

The synaesthetic experience and response to the processes at work within the tidal reaches, help define the ‘spiritual’ within my paintings.

These paintings are contemplative; it is important to give them time. The concept of space, both actual and pictorial, implications of time and place, issues within movement, weather and light, alongside gesture, glimpse and memory are requisite themes within these works.

The constant struggle and dialogue with the abstract and figurative empathise with the processes of nature found within both microcosm and macrocosm.

Drawing has played a more important role recently, the delicate and subtle played alongside the textural and fluidity of paint and wax, help accentuate ‘sensation’ and ‘visual – touch’, or the ‘Taste of Sight’.
