Interdomestic Planetary

11 June to 10 July

This is a new body of work that has been developed from January this year.

The paintings have been inspired by domesticity: thoughts that occur during domestic chores and how a household item, however banal and everyday, can be a conduit towards reflecting on the way we live and how we are part of a world that cannot be escaped.

The titles come from popular songs from the last 50 years and serve to connect the pictures with a shared cultural experience.

Biography

After growing up in St Davids, Ben Lloyd’s quest for more artistic expertise has led him on a journey from studying Art Foundation in Carmarthen, to completing a BA (Hons) Fine Art at Liverpool School of Art and graduating with an MA in Fine Art from Cardiff School of Art and Design.

In 1996, Lloyd played a key role in setting up the Hub collective – an artistic group committed to creating innovative community art projects that inspired children in the North West of England to be creative with recycled materials. Committed to working with people from deprived communities, he then combined working as an artist in residence, on a wide range of inventive arts programmes, with teaching on Liverpool Community College’s Art Foundation programme.

Over the years, Lloyd has successfully exhibited work at a number of renowned venues across the UK, including Liverpool Biennial, Wales Millennium Centre, tactileBOSCH, the National Eisteddfod and Bath Fringe Visual Arts. Last year, the Arts Council of Wales funded the Tourist, an installation in a hotel bedroom in the artist’s home town, St Davids. And, this summer alone, he will be exhibiting in the group shows Summer #1, Milgi Warehouse, Cardiff and All Systems Go!, Departure Gallery, London.

Lloyd’s work for this show has been supported by Pembrokeshire County Council.
